Description
Locality:
Burra Burra Copper Mine, Burra, Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.7 × 4.2 × 3.4 cm
Description

An attractive irregular shaped azurite nodule from the old Burra mine, however this specimen is probably a contemporary one, most likely coming from the mine during it's last re working of remnant ore in the 1970's.

The colour is a very intense azure blue and is finely crystalline. It is has a little white kaolin clay in cracks giving some contrast and perspective. Of interest are the small holes occuring in a few rounded lumps. These show better crystallisation and are darker in colour than the rest of the specimen, perhaps indicating different growth periods ?
