Description

Glossy black hisingerite, still popularly known as "sturtite" forms a layer on both sides of a plate of calcite. There is also some associated pyrite.

Hisingerite is a hydrated iron silicate with an amorphous crystal structure and is present as coatings on many mineral specimems at Broken Hill. This is a fairly pure example of this interesting mineral.
