Malachite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Gomersal Mine, Tanunda, Barossa Valley, Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.8 × 4.2 × 2.6 cm
Description

A strange earthy malachite associated with coarse white quartz grains gives this specimen an unusual appearance. Some of the rounded forms here suggest to me possible weathered pseudomorps of malachite after atacamite, but this is only an opinion. There is also one tiny bleb of associated massive azurite.

This19th century mine provided good specimens from the dumps in the 1970s but since then the remaining dumps were pushed into the shaft by the property owners concerned with trespassers
