Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
8.7 × 7 × 2.8 cm
Description

Black resinous hisingerite known locally as 'sturtite' occurs intimately associated with a layer of pyrite which in turn sits on a layer of pink banded manganocalcite. Quite an interesting specimen mineralogically and for the combination of species.

The mangano calcite shows some transluscency in thinner sections. There is mild fluorescence under LW UV light but uncertain with SW.
