Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Royal Restormel Mine, Lostwithiel, Cornwall, United Kingdom
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.5 × 4.8 × 2.6 cm
Description

Quite a respectable 'old time' specimen from perhaps one of the best localities for goethite crystals. This specimen features dark grey to black radiating & terminated micro crystals up to 4 mm long in an open vugh to one end of a massive goethite matrix. Some crystals have been broken where contacting across the vugh while others are perfect.

The specimen was purchased by myself from well known Adelaide dealer, the late Chris Johnston in May1979 for AU$8. Unfortunately no labels were preserved.  An old catalouge number or price tag can still be seen on the rear of the speciemen. Perhaps someone may recognise this to add to it's provenance ?
