Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7.5 × 4.4 × 4.2 cm
Description

In the past, this type of material was refered to as kutnahorite, but studies show it is more likely to be manganoan calcite or calcian rhodocrhrosite - you'd have to test each piece to be sure. This specimen features these weird bunches of rod like crystals that have been almost totally covered in reddish brown goethite. At the base of the specimen you can see these more clearly. There is also some associated black hisingerite (sturtite) present.

A very fine exapmle of this material with no apparent damage, although care must be taken in handling as the surface can be quite crumbly.
