Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Puttapa, Leigh Creek, Flinders Ranges, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 3 × 3.3 cm
Description

Clear to brown adamite crystals to 3-4 mm occur in an open vugh on botryoidal white willemite which has formed a mat of radiating micro crystals at the surface. Some of the adamite crystals are frosted white on one side giving an unusual efect. Some crystals also appear to be pseudomorphed by brown siderite?

This mine has been worked intermittantly since the mid 1970's and is a distinctive deposit because the ore is primarily willemite which outcropped at the surface, being mistaken for baryte by early prospectors. This specimen is a fine locality piece which displays well.
