Description

Mawbyite - Pb(Fe3+Zn)2(AsO4)2(OH,H2O)2 - is the rare dimorph of carminite and was originally described from Broken Hill in 1989. These specimens are very hard to come by as only a small amount of material was collected from a small fracture zone only a few metres across. On this specimen, it forms a dark red crust of micro crystals on a quartz matrix. There are also some small hemispheres of goethite or similar mineral.

There are a few little dings on the surface of the mawbyite but due to its rarity and provenance this can generally be overlooked.
