Pyrite On Calcite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Renison Bell Mine, North Dundas, West Coast Municipality, Tasmania, Australia
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7 × 6 × 2.2 cm
Largest Crystal:
2.00cm
Description

A seldom seen specimen from this mine these days. It looks like someone has sprinkled gold glitter over this piece. Tiny micro pyrite crystals are thickly covering rhombohedral calcite crystals on both sides.

On the main display side the white calcite is showing through while on the reverse they have been totally coated with pyrite which is quite spectacular. Unfortunately some of these crystals have been cleaved on this side as seen in the photos.
