Pyrite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Poona Copper Mine, Moonta, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.1 × 5 × 3.8 cm
Description

A large but crude 3.5cm pyrite crystal in a quartz matrix is the focus of this piece ! These crystals were found during open cut operations in the 1990's mostly forming inside solid chalcopyrite. When the chalcopyrite was broken open, some of these crystals were liberated but most show some contacting.

The prominant corner of the pyrite crystal shows a modified face while the surface is dulled by a film of covellite and copper vertigo. A nice locality piece that displays very well.
