Description

This is a nice locality specimen showing matrix with areas of lustrous colourless scawtite crystals in association with dark titanaugite and milky white tobermorite. Scawtite is a very rare silicate mineral named after its Type Locality at Scawt Hill, Larne, just a few miles north of Carneal. The rare and unusual mineral assemblage at both localities is due to the interaction of dolerite intrusions with the Ulster White Limestone country rock. This specimen was collected by the late Harry J, Foy who contributed hugely to the knowledge of Irish minerals. He collected from the mid 1960's until ill health forced him to stop in the late 1990's. The specimen will come with a pdf copy of an article on Harry first published in Earth Science Ireland magazine and reproduced with their permission.
