Heliodor With Monazite-(Ce) Columbite & Muscovite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Lauvland #4 Quarry, Evje og Hornnes, Agder, Norway
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
16.5 × 14.5 × 10.5 cm
Largest Crystal:
11.50cm
Description

Several large heliodor crystals up to 11.5 cm on both sides of this giant heavy specimen.

Please note the form of the big crystal - it's expanding after the first 1.5 cm - is it a scepter-beryl?

There are also some monazite-ce crystals (discredited name - now seen as pyrochlore). Unfortunately the largest pyrochlore crystal of 4.5 cm was broken, badly repaired and glued amateurishly back on the specimen. I left it like I got it because you don't see terminated pyrochlore crystals this size very often. But there's more of it in the specimen.

You might want to trim it and get a really exciting specimen or even two. Some shiny muscovite is giving it a little luster.

In addition to this right after taking the photographs I discovered a couple of small columbite crystals on the specimen (not pictured, sorry).
