Gypsum & Calcite On Aragonite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Lavrion District Mines, Attiki Prefecture, Greece
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
10.7 × 8.7 × 5.6 cm
Description

Interesting combination of lightly blue coloured gypsum needles and clear calcite crystals on aragonite, which is also lightly blue in parts.

The blue colouration is probably caused by aurichalcite inclusions or another copper mineral.

This would make the aragonite the variety zeringite.
