Fluorite On Calcite

ex Bergakademie Freiberg
Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Cavnic Mine, Maramureș County, Romania
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7.8 × 7 × 5 cm
Description

Extremely rare form and color of fluorite. A translucent slightly amethyst-purple fluorite spheroid hides under balls of calcite. While there appeared a few green fluorite spheroids on the market I have seen absolutely nothing comparable to this color. It is surely from Cavnic, but was labeled wrongly by the Begakademie Freiberg and Wendel minerals. The last owner, a chemist and longtime Cavnic adept, x-rayed it to confirm his suspicion.
