Muscovite Psm Cordierite - Indialite

ex collection Eugen Kreidler, ex Möckel

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Japan
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3.2 × 3 × 1 cm
Description

This is a  'cerasite (of Kukushi)' or 'sakura ishi (cherry blossom stone)' -  a complex, but in Japan rather common pseudomorph of (muscovite) mica after trapiche cordierite-indialite and not just 'cordierite'. The locality given on the label is non-existent on the internet. The closest resemblance I can find is to the material from Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, Kinki Region, Honshu Island, Japan. Maybe 'Kakihamanra' is an old term, or an old part of the city of Kameoka. At least this specimen seems to be old with a Kreidler label (sixties I presume) with a note.

Unusual color.
