Description

Langenthal is a rather young locality in the Hunsrueck mountains. The quarry was opened in the sixties. Agates are very rare and sought after and it is the only place I know with green ankerite lines in the agates.
Those calcite crystals (known as Kanonenspat), here covered by iridescent limonite, rarely come out in one piece. Most of them grow in tight fissures and touch the opposite side. The crystals on this specimen show second generation growth.
