Description
Locality:
Sipi Caves, Mount Elgon, Manafwa District, Eastern Region, Uganda
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3.5 × 2 × 1.2 cm
Description

Very fine acicular, colorless natrolite crystals in a hollow fossil wood banch replaced by natrolite and topped by two honey-colored calcite crystals. Was brought to Europe from a scientific excursion. It's strictly forbidden to take anything out of Mount Elgon area for 'normal' collectors because it's a national park. It's the only fossil replaced by natrolite I've ever heard about. I may have the last specimen of this kind and this is one of the best in sense of acicular natrolite needles only available specimen of this. The material was last described by Udluft (1929) and Holms (British Museum 1937).
