Sipi Caves, Mount Elgon, Manafwa District, Eastern Region, Uganda
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
4.4 × 3 × 2.2 cm
Description

Very fine acicular, colorless natrolite crystals in a hollow fossil wood branch, replaced by natrolite. An eciting specimen. Was brought to Europe from a scientific excursion. It's strictly forbidden to take anything out of Mount Elgon area for 'normal' collectors because it's a national park. It's the only fossil replaced by natrolite I've ever heard about. I may have the last few specimen of this kind and this is one of the best in sense of acicular natrolite needles in a recognizable fossil wood limb. Last described by Udluft (1929) and Holms (British Museum 1937).
