Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Sipi Caves, Mount Elgon, Manafwa District, Eastern Region, Uganda
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
16 × 5.5 × 2 cm
Description

Very fine acicular, colorless natrolite crystals in a hollow fossil wood branch, replaced by natrolite.
A highly interesting specimen. Was brought to Europe from a scientific excursion. It's strictly forbidden to take anything out of Mount Elgon area for 'normal' collectors because it's a national park. It's the only fossil replaced by natrolite I've ever heard about. I may have the last specimen of this kind and this is clearly the best in sense of acicular natrolite needles in fossil wood and size.
Lat described by Udluft (1929) and Holms (British Museum 1937).
