Description

Chalcocite (altering to malachite) pseudomorph after wood. Those fossilized logs were really used as ore, most of them melted down for the copper. Nowadays this material is very scarce and sought after. This is a part of a little branch with a very nice wood structure. The chalcocite itself is in parts altered to malachite, as can be seen also in the cross-section. As far as I know this is the only locality which had this kind of chalcocite-after-wood pseudomorph.
