Quartz & Fluorite

Fluorescent

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Poudrette Quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec, Canada
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
2 × 0.7 × 0.7 cm
Description

Very nice and rare specimen of a single fluorescent naturally strongly etched quartz crystal, associated with very small fluorescent purple fluorite cubes and a single rhodochrosite crystal.  Very surprising, the quartz is fluorescent bright green under SW UV light and weakly dark green under LW UV light, which is quite unusual.  Under the microscope, the weakly smokey quartz crystals appear to be partially overgrown by a colorless gemmy to opaque species but the fluorescence comes from within the quartz crystals themselves.  Collected by Gilles Haineault in 2017.
