Description

Once the largest Zinc mine in Europe, the Altenberg Open Pit was closed in 1884 and specimens are nowadays very rare. Altenberg is the Type Locality for three species; willemite, hopeite and fraipontite and this rare sample has a very rich coverage of small colourless and yellowish crystals and spheres of willemite on an almost massive willemite matrix. A very rare example of the typical willemite ore from this locality.
