Description

Oldhamite is a rare calcium-sulfide mostly only found in meteorites. One of the few terrestrial occurrences is the Lichtenberg Absetzer Dump in Ronneburg, a burning dump of a former Uranium mine (cultivated in the late 1990's) were oldhamit was formed throught the reaction of H2S with limestone. This sample from the Rüger collection contains oldhamite as dark grey grains, masses and small veins in calcite.
