Description

Once the largest Zinc mine in Europe, the Altenberg Open Pit was closed in 1884 and specimens are nowadays very rare. This rare sample has a very rich coverage of small tan-coloured crystals of smithsonite on a small amount of typical yellowish-brown matrix. The backside has a vein of small lustrous colourless hemimorphite crystals.
A very good specimen, comes with a nice old Kranz label.
