Description

Once the largest Zinc mine in Europe, the Altenberg Open Pit was closed in 1884 and specimens are nowadays very rare. Altenberg is the Type Locality for three species; willemite, hopeite and fraipontite and this rare sample has a good coverage of small colourless prismatic hexagonal crystals of willemite on a typical yellowish botryoidal mass of smithsonite.
Comes with a nice old label.
