Description
Locality:
Geevor Mine, Cornwall, United Kingdom
Class:
Combination
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
9.1 × 9.3 × 3.7 cm
Description

This is an interesting specimen as it represents a post-mining development clearly evidenced by its shape and fragments of mine timber attached. There was quite a lot of this material around in the early 1990's but not much is seen today. The copper crystals are well formed but only about 0.2mm in size.

There is a rich development of cuprite of a deep purple-red colour and again crystals are very small but viewed with a microscope it is easy to see the cubic habit with various intergrowths and even interpenetrant twinning.
