Description

A very interesting specimen of fluorite and barite with some microscopic specs of malachite and an unknow yellowish mineral. The fluorite forms highly modified rounded masses. Although, the fluorite is very transparent, the rough surface modification makes it less so. A close examination with a loupe shows tiny inclusions of malachite in a couple of places. Overall, the fluorite has a slight pinkish hue, probably due to some hematite content. None of the barite is totally intact but what remains adds to the character of this piece. This a new find for us, just collected this year from the Blue Star Mine, not to be confused with the Blus Star Prospect which is in a different part of the Bishop Cap Mountains. The last photo shows how this piece was embedded in a soft limestone when discovered.
