Fluorite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Weißeck Area, Murwinkel, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 6 × 3.3 cm
Description

I found many different fluorites in the Ice Cleft. What is special about this locality is that within a few centimeters the shape and color of the fluorite can change completely. Also, it happens very often that small pockets contain only two or three beautiful pieces of one variety of fluorite.

This fluorite shows gloss to high gloss surfaces with a light square texture. The piece is partially covered with a second generation of fluorites that have the size of sugar crystals. As a result, the transparency is lost in this area. But it is precisely the second generation, which has partially "swamped" the larger fluorites, that makes the piece something special.
