Description

This specimen comes from an alpine find at the Hohe Tauern in Carinthia. Water-clear quartz crystals on matrix covered with bright mica on three longitudinal faces in the lower part, and clear, highly lustrous terminations. The other three faces are highly lustrous and water-clear. The mica covering gives the crystals a frosty character. The crystals reduce towards the top – this is typical for this locality. Some crystals are doubly terminated. Additionally, a second generation of clear quartzes has selectively grown on the quartzes. Silky, shiny and transparent calcites have also grown on the quartz crystals. The backside is also crystalized and covered with dark green chlorite and nearly white mica. This gives the specimen an additional feature. The piece is crystalized all around – only the bottom was extracted from the rock. Some crystals are broken, which does not quite draw attention. The specimen stands in the displayed position without support.
