Description

The Gastein Valley is known for its alpine green fluorite octahedra in Austria. There are several sites where fluorites in different colors (mainly different shades of green), sizes and quantities have been found. One of the least known locations is for example the "Stubnerkogel Osthang". There are hardly any pieces to acquire from this site, and the few pieces were found in private collections. With this specimen the color goes into an intense apple green. The faces of the fluorite octahedron show a special feature: The slightly shining and smooth crystals are covered with a second layer which is skeletal and frosty. In this area the fluorite shows a multiple bright zonation at the edges. This rare child of crystallization can be seen very well in the photos. The two main crystals are very transparent with good gloss. All crystals are grown individually and exposed to matrix covered with small quartz crystals. An alpine fluorite from an old collection - no visible damage to report!
