Palway, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad District, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 6 × 4.8 cm
Description

This is a very unusual and rare tourmaline from Pakistan. Normally, the tourmalines are elongated and more or less slender crystallized. But not here: The crystal shows a big termination (4 cm in diameter) with good structure. The areas on the sides are very short (about 1 cm) and then go back to the opposite termination. The crystal has grown in a muskovit matrix. The faces are highly glossy with a very lively structure. The tourmaline looks like black - but its real color is a very dark blue. You can see the color when you give a strong light to the crystal. The specimen stands in two positions without any additional support.
