Description

The fluorite from the Summit Cleft of Weisseck are internationally well-known. As a new find, there is the Ice cleft with its extraordinary quality. A third cleft, less known than the two other clefts but definitely noteworthy, is located on the Eastern slope of the Weisseck Mountain. It is a very dangerous place for collecting; the lime is broken in all directions by the frost. Large pieces of rock are stapled loosely. The Rockhound has to crawl under the rocks and be very cautious when choosing which of them to remove, in order to prevent the house of cards from collapsing. If you are lucky, the reward is an excellent fluorite, characterized by its fantastic color and its translucency.

This fluorite shows an amazing blue translucent color and measures 2.5 cm on the edge. The faces have a silky luster with a fine structure. The color of this kind of fluorite reminds of the fascinating clarity of a deep mountain lake surrounded by limestone. The fluorite displays a great blue, especially in daylight. Bright calcite scalenohedra are crystallized on one side. They show the growth as scalenohedra and this is typical for the Weisseck - it is considered as identification marks. The back is extracted from the rock. An excellent piece that comes directly from my collection! It should be highly ranked as a great rarity with fine quality.
