Description

The Grube Niederschlag is an active mining on fluorite and barite since 2013. In January 2016 a pocket was opened, which delivered fluorite of good quality for the first time. In addition to a big specimen (240 kg, 110 cm long, 70 cm wide and 35 cm high), only a handful of good specimens could be salvaged. The fluorite specimens were overgrown by a thick layer of iron hydroxide, which was removed very elaborately.

The fluorites are characterized by their high gloss and good quality. The surfaces show a square texture with an additional fine structure. The crystals are very translucent – nearly glassy with a bright yellow-green color. The largest crystal measures 2.4 cm. There are countless thin and bright zonings along the edges. Small, bright and lustrous barite crystals are partly covered on the fluorite, which gives the specimen a plastic and lively character.
