Description

Reinhold Bacher worked for the last 7 years at a cleft at the north face of Weisseck. This cleft was completely filled with ice. The work was very hard and time-consuming, but the results are impressive: Most of the similar pieces from this region are etched from humid acid and thus dull. However, most specimens from the Ice Cleft are fantastically lustrous and sharp, which makes them look as if they were wet. The perma-frost protected the fluorite and hence many crystals are lustrous. Additionally, a lot of different colors and shapes were found in the Ice Cleft.

Lustrous fluorite with interleaved square texture. The faces are slightly curved inwards. The fluorite shows a very good blue color in daylight (all photos with daylight as backlit), and with a bright zoning along the edges. The extraordinary thing about these fluorites is that they change in different light sources color(blue-green, electric blue and lavender). The assemble is very tridimensional, translucency is excellent and finally the combination with white calcite gives a lot of contrast to the piece. The calcite is the typical hallmark of Weisseck. The large fluorite measures 35 mm on edge. No significant damage to report, backside was extracted from the rock.
