Description

Superb, rich old specimen of pseudomalachite from the ancient mining area of Lubitova. This locality was called Libethen by the Germans and Libetbanya by the Hungarians, but is now in Slovakia, and is Lubitova. Mined since the Bronze Age and closed in 1863, this is one of the great locales of Europe and this specimen is good pseudomalachite which has formed on brown matrix. This piece comes from an old collection that was acquired by the collector in 1969. The old collection was started in 1860 and sold in 1969. The old collection label from the second owner is included. The location name on the label is "Libethen, Ungarn".
