Description

You are bidding on a small sample with an extremely rare crystal(!) of skutterudite (or nickelskutterudite) associated with purple fluorite from the 1890s find at the Trotter Mine. This unusual find was studied extensively by Pete Dunn and others and this is one of the only known crystals of the mineral from Franklin. From the Alice Kraissl collection originally but probably originated from the Hancock collection. Extremely rare oddity from the locale.

This specimen is from the Steven Phillips collection of Franklin District micromounts and rarities curated by Vandall King, and features specimens from a multitude of well-known collectors of the locality including Alice Kraissl, Russ DeRoo, Dave Cook, Van King and others. Many of these samples may be featured in photos in the upcoming three volume series of books being compiled by Vandall King.
