Description

You are bidding on a large, and very unusual sample from the Sterling Hill dolomite. A fracture surface hosts quite a bit of botryoidal, greenish-yellow sphalerite that has been stained with greenockite. There is also one spot with some tiny orange crystals of greenockite on top of the sphalerite with cubes of galena. The specimen also hosts hundreds of tiny galena crystals elsewhere. The most interesting portion of the sample in on the bottom, where small cavities in the calcite host EDS confirmed, white scruffy patches of minute otavite rhombohedra. Otavite is extremely rare at Sterling Hill! George Elling collection.
