Description

You are bidding on an exceptional sample of this new species from the only known locality. The phase is an Fe, Al phosphate and has been proven a new mineral, but at this time the structure has not been solved because of inherent twinning in the crystals. The search is underway to find a suitable crystal for PXRD work. This mineral is also extremely pleochroic and changes color from yellow-green to pale lavendar under different lighting sources. This is probably due to trace amounts of REE in the structure (churchite-Y is common at the locality). The local collectors called this phase "wheelite" because the common habit is in wheel-like clusters of bladed crystals as seen here. The mineral is extremly rare and very few samples are known!
