Metavoltine Szomolnokite & Halotrichite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey, United States of America
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.7 × 4.3 × 3.8 cm
Description

You are bidding on a large and unusual piece from Sterling Hill with many sulfates. Yellow metavoltine crystals accompany powdery yellow szomolnokite, fibers of halotrichite and gypsum. There are also many unidentified crystals present and I assume that the pinkish, blocky crystals may be rhomboclase. Some small yellow prisms look like krausite as well. These species are not noted from Stelring Hill and so analysis of this material may yield new species for the locality. From the Ted Bartels collection of Franklin Minerals.
