Description

A huge for the locality specimen of turquoise embedded in trachyte rock matrix. The old copper mines at Vathi village is the only locality in Greece where turquoise is found.XRD and SEM analysis on identical specimens have shown high content in REE (Th,Ce,La,Nd,Dy,Y,Er,Sc), platinoids (Os,Ir) and signficant gold presence.Other minerals identified in matrix are iridosmine,ilmenite,zircon,monazite,Yttrialite(Y),Yttrocrasite(Y),Cheralite,bodenbenderite and an unnamed Gd-dominant monazite. An excellent specimen of Greek turquoise.
