Minerals of the mercury ore deposit Idrija (book):
A5 format, hardcover, 112 pages, over 200 high-quality photographs and illustrations. ISBN 987-3-642-31631-9. Springer Verlag

The mercury mine in Idrija, known for its magnificent ruby-red crystals of cinnabar, left an indelible mark on the development of science and technology in human history. Due to the high demand for this raw material, Idrija attracted world-renown scientists who studied the mineral composition of the ores and the occurrence of the ore bodies. The book carries us through the turbulent geological history, into the depths of the mine straight to the magic world of minerals. Among many mineralogical peculiarities, the author draws our attention to a new type of cinnabar twins, which are the true specialty of the Idrija ore deposit. This book is a work of art, written in clear and understandable language that will attract even the most demanding readers.

Prof. Breda Mirtič, mineralogist

This book presents one of the fundamental works of Slovenian mineralogy. Although it is primarily intended for mineralogists, geochemists, and ore geologists, it is written with a great passion for nature and with the utmost care to make it understandable to the general public. Complex geological and tectonic processes are described in a logical way in conjunction with mineralization processes, where the author emphasizes the role of hydrocarbons. In addition to the scientific content, the book makes us aware of the uniqueness of the Idrija deposit. The book, with over 200 professional photographs and illustrations, preserves the true natural values of the Idrija mercury deposit, which would otherwise have been lost for generations to come.

Prof. Jože Čar, geologist
