Description

Busovača was one of my favorite places for collecting. This place is so packed with crystals that every year the locals surprise with some great new find, starting from World's best hyalophanes, water clear rock crystals, smoky quartzes, scepter amethysts from 5 years ago, including rutile, anatase, titanite, apatite, albite and siderite. A typical Alpine mineralization in the heart of Bosnia.

I found this specimen in the extensive system of Alpine-type veins in the Paleozoic phyllites 200 m before the famous hyalophane locality in the Zagradski potok (creek). This locality was excavated since 2014 when Seno Zukić, the local collector from Busovača, discovered first smoky quartzes in an old land slide overgrown by forest.

The specimen is dominated by 8 cm tall lustrous smoky quartz crystal covered by many smaller ones at the termination. Sutures on the prism faces are typical for Friedländer type of quartz twinned by the Dauphiné Law. While the larger crystal is full of phyllite inclusions, the smaller ones are fully transparent when lit from behind. An exquisite specimen for Alpine-type quartz, with this one coming from Bosnia.
