Description

Beautiful piece of Vonsenite, a strange iron borate from the well-known “Monchi” mine, located in the Sierra del Cordel, near Burguillos del Cerro, which are created at high temperatures in metamorphic contact deposits; by its amount of iron it is attracted by the magnets, in fact from this indoor mine, since it was an underground deposit, large quantities of iron were extracted; but its activity ended at the end of the 70s. The Vonsenita in this deposit appears as aggregates of prismatic microcrystals of black color and silky shine, they have a constant orientation that gives them a characteristic elongated shape, having this mine as peculiar the high boron and rare earth content of mineralizing fluids that determines the presence of unique minerals nationwide, due to their rarity and quality in their crystallizations. The piece in question has an orthorhombic crystalline system, it is opaque, silky gloss, with prismatic crystals radiating fibrous masses soluble in acids slowly, with a unique iridescence, a unique piece difficult to locate.
