Paddlewheelite & Albrechtschraufite - New Discovery!

Two unusual and colourful Uranium (U) minerals have been reported from Germany for the first time: Green to bluish paddlewheelite and yellow-green glassy albrechtschraufite.

The locality is Uranus Mine, Kleinrückerswalde, in the Erzgebirge Mountains in Saxony. This is only the second locality in the world after the type locality at Jachymov, Czech Republic.

The identification of the minerals has been done by PXRD & EDS.

Another unusual mineral is seelite, as it is an arsenite-arsenate. It forms beautiful yellow sprays. The formation of arsenites is often associated with the presence of native arsenic, that is in assemblage with fluorite at this locality.

Interestingly also tooeleite was also confirmed, the only known Fe-arsenite-arsenate. The colourless beige rabbittite, that usually has (OH) groups, is F dominant from here.
