New Collection at TVM

Content image: New Collection at TVM

A couple of weeks ago we were contacted by a collector who had stopped collecting and was interested in moving his specimens on.

After completing a purchase last week and having been away in Bakewell all weekend, today was the day we had arranged to pick the pieces up.

We set off early into the Monday traffic; currently the climate in the UK is strangely warm and dusky as Hurricane Ophelia tracks to our west. There was a strange hazy sun over London as we trucked in that direction.

Having arrived and enjoyed a quick cup of tea we were quickly onto the task at hand. The majority of the collection was stored in 41 drawers, all purposely divided to accomodate the pieces, and each cell having its own label.

Our task was to transfer each piece into our flats with the label from the drawer.

Wonderfully built collection drawers and George busy packing

Suffice to say we were there for 5 hours and quite pleased when we had finished and loaded up the 53 flats of minerals, and the paper cuts had stopped bleeding.

Today's TVM box shot!

The collection itself is meticulously catalogued with each specimen retaining it previous labels, it has been put together mostly via UK mineral shows and dealer lists from the mid 1980s through to 2008.

In total there are around 1200 pieces, of which I would say 800 or so are fluorite.

There are some wonderful fluorite specimens from localities both classic and current at the time, with sections from the USA, S America, Europe, and Asia. For the UK there are a good selecton of Weardale, Derbyshire and Cornish pieces.

The remainder of the collection is a mixture of UK and worldwide pieces that appealed at the time, some very good.

The accompanying labels are like a who's who of British Mineral dealers in the 1990's -2000's, we even found some of ours!

Our client has respectfully asked not to be mentioned by name online, so we will be cataloguing the collection as TVM Private Catalogue 2017. Purchasers of specimens will receive all details/labels as passed to us.

We will begin offering specimens shortly, below are a few teaser shots of the cabinet drawers from our appraisal last week.
