Moon Rock One Upmanship

Content image: Moon Rock One Upmanship

For those of you who check out my personal timeline on Facebook you will already be aware that I keep this fed with a steady stream of mineral photographs and sometimes (not so) witty captions!

I just do this for a bit of entertainment and interaction as I get items checked and photographed for the website.

Last week we not only had a "large moon" in the night sky but I also cleaned up the calcite specimen posted above.

To me it has an interesting bright monochrome lunar quality so was posted topically as "Moon rock".

Very shortly after and to my amazement a Facebook friend, Eric Hendricks from Colorado USA, posted the 2 pictures below - of the real thing!

It turns out his mother took the photos for the USGS about 24 hrs after Appolo 11 was back on Earth in July 1969.

We do live in a very connected world or should I say moon?
