Everyone who is connected to the world of minerals will surely have heard by now of the tragic and early death of John Veevaert.
Reading the tributes over on Facebook you really get the feeling of what an important and inspirational figure he had become in our connected world. He certainly was to us.
We first met John in 2001 over breakfast in our hotel in Ste Marie and throughout the early years of TVM we were in frequent contact, him visiting us here and us being guided around Tucson show by him back in 2002.
Everyone should know of John's passion for all things benitoite but I did also happen to know that his most regretted sale, was a Kuruman specimen of andradite and hematite - shown above.
I hope that one day soon we will see the publication of the new mineral "Veevaertite" in his honour, just sad that it will be posthumous.
