Darrellhenryite from Madagascar

I spotted this specimen in the latest Sal Minerals auction.

Salvator was puzzled enough by the colour and habit of the cranberry tourmaline crystals to have these analysed.

The results came back as Darrellhenryite, a rare tourmaline member only known so far from Nová Ves, Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic.

Until now these specimens have usually labelled as tourmaline, liddicoatite or rubellite.

This could be a sensational discovery, certainly this piece with 2.5cm crystals and 2.8kg weight is sensational in its own right.

Yet another amazing rock from Salvatore's collection!
